Started by Luqman abdurrahman when he collected and gathered orphans and disabled children, and then created a youth-led community called ''Laskar Emas''.
THE HISTORY
Indonesia Resilience Foundation was growing from a small band of volunteers of tourism ambassador (Abang None Jakarta) in 2013 and historically started since 2009. The establishment of the foundation was motivated by the tsunami in 2004. It was initiated by Luqman Abdurrahman while he was in Kepulauan Seribu (thousand islands) north of Jakarta. He started the journey by collecting, helping and nurturing small kids of orphans, and communicated with the kids with disabled foreigners (an australian blind old and a one-legged man named ''Paul'', and his friends, a Vietnamese blind girl and an Australian old man). There, he was amazed of the them as they thrive to live successfully. The blind and one legged Australian have fish business with locals who have no disability and complete body as his workers. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese blind girl successfully graduated as Master degree holder from an Australian university. This experience turns his motivations on so much.
The kids community was given a name ''Golden Corps Community'' (Komunitas Laskar Emas), he regularly meets them twice every week, donates foods and voluntarily teaches the kids basic English, tourism and guides, hospitality as well as environmental awareness through cartoon movies he downloaded from YouTube. Luqman believes that nurturing and inspiring kids is one of the ways to change and prepare for better future because the kids will become young adult, our friends and supporters when they grow up. Also through it, Luqman believes that he should set as example therefore develop his own characters and motivation.
A meeting with a Singaporean man on a boat once told Luqman words that inspired him his whole time. The man saids: '' if we litter our planet, we hate our kids. We will kill the future of our kids''. The words successfully convince Luqman's older partners whom love his kid to stop littering the sea. The thousands islands sea habitats has suffered tremendously from pollution and destruction. Ever since that time Luqman started his campaigns to promote, share and tells people the imminent danger of not caring for the environment, preparing the danger of future natural disaster, also to helps prepare for the future of human development through nurturing kids with inspiration and develop sustainable tourism .
Luqman had experiences living abroad when he was a kid, especially had a deep influence in cambodia while he studied at a french international school and a British International School. His dad is a retired General of the army and was a defense attache, had the experiences to travel abroad and many parts of the world, Luqman lives in a humble family he witness that Indonesia had abundant resources of natural wealth, however Luqman was so confused that people feels that they are always poor. He soon to realize that the poor is not the wealth, but the mentality. The mentality to self develop. However, Luqman doesn't want to curse the situation nor curse the government because he realized it wont helps much, he think that every individual has the rights and responsibility to develop themselves, improve the surrounding and he always has in his mind to change his surrounding to be better.
He realizes he cannot work it out alone, his adventures begins through collecting his friends and new friends. He failed more than thousands times convincing his friends and new friends, yet he didnt give in. He entered tourism ambassador and become one of the finalist, he had his momentum to move to international cooperation office in Jakarta Provincial government. He risk his life to resign from his position as a chief of division in one of the government district with high salary above his peers (at more than 900Usd per month which is very high at his age, in pursuits of global networks, more knowledge and skills as well as developing and finding teams to helps together tackles the many global problems.
His efforts received supports as well as hurdles for many years he struggles to develop organized community, he met many friends and volunteers during the Jakarta flood disaster of 2013, and through the advise of Dr Edy Junaedi created ''Jakarta Resilience Volunteer'' (Relawan Jakarta Tangguh) and there he met Maria whom helped him until now, also in 2014 Jodi Salahuddin Akbar along with his friends joined the team and had given a lot of contribution during the early start up and difficulties. While on his way he dreams to develop a foundation which could help him realize many dreams to improve the life of many people, and during that time more and more skillful and active youth joined him.
Yet developing a foundation is not an easy task. So Luqman is doing a life time learning and exploring many ways to sustain his mission. One day he was trusted to lead a project of a high technology flood and weather sensor installation in 4 location involving technological experts, volunteers, private sector CSR. From this experience, he get a lot of networks and managed to get investor and partners to invest in a start up project, in which the business will dedicate parts of the profits to be reinvested, and support the foundation mission for social purpose.
